Permanent Makeup – Eyeliner & Lipliner

I’m the kind of person who likes to look good, but dreads having to roll out of bed in the mornings because I’ll have to go through all of the elaborate minutiae of makeup application.

Every morning is a personal war for me; and it sometimes got to the point where I would lie in bed with the covers tucked over my head until two in the afternoon, simply because I didn’t want to bother with my exceedingly tedious morning routine.

The thought has occasionally occurred to me to skip putting on makeup altogether, but I haven’t left my house without makeup on since before I was in high school, and I don’t intend on changing that now. A

fter another completely wasted Saturday morning spent lying in bed and trying to pretend that I was still asleep though, I finally decided that I had had enough. I searched the internet for permanent makeup options. I wanted to start out slowly; with a little permanent eyeliner or permanent lip liner or semi permanent lip liner maybe.

What is permanent makeup?

If you’re wondering what permanent makeup is; it’s essentially makeup that’s been tattooed directly onto a person’s face. The difference between permanent lip liner, for example, and the butterfly tattoo a person might have had inked onto their lower back, is that whereas tattoos are mostly meant to make a statement of some sort about somebody’s personality, permanent makeup is simply meant to enhance (or slightly alter) whatever’s already there.

How is permanent makeup applied?

As mentioned in the last paragraph, permanent makeup is basically a bunch of tattoos. This means that it is usually applied the same way tattoos are; except that they’re almost always applied by a plastic surgeon, since facial skin is much more delicate than the skin in most of the rest of the body, and since the tattoos are usually placed really close to important parts of the body, like the eyes.

Does applying permanent makeup hurt?

The short answer to that one is “yes.” Getting a tattoo is essentially getting punctured a lot of times with an ink-filled needle. A permanent makeup job will be essentially the same thing. A permanent makeup machine; a device used specifically for the application of permanent makeup will often be used; although it pretty much does the same thing a tattoo needle does: deposit pigment into deep layers of skin.

With permanent makeup though, it isn’t applied as deeply, and since it’s applied to the face, most plastic surgeons will apply topical or local anesthetic to whatever you want to put permanent makeup on.

The most you will probably feel will be some minor discomfort, and there may be a bit of swelling and stinging afterwards as well. You might want to ask your doctor about what you can do to deal with the after-effects.

What are the pros and cons of permanent makeup?

The first con is fairly obvious. It’s permanent. You’ll have it for the rest of your life. Or, since it’s really likely that the ink will fade over time, you’ll have it for at least a few years. This means that if you opted to have blue permanent eyeliner, you’re going to have to live with that particular permanent eyeliner color for a while, unless you’re willing to undergo costly and painful (usually more painful than the permanent makeup application process) tattoo removal to get rid of it.

Of course, this is probably the reason why people get permanent makeup in the first place, so it counts as a pro as well: the fact that it stays. It’s really a double-edged sword.

This is why if you want to get permanent makeup, you have to think long and hard before making your decision; there aren’t any morning after take backsides once you have this kind of makeup on your face. A lot of clinics and beauty centers where permanent makeup services are being offered will also have specialists to help you with your color and design choices.

To get the look you want and avoid infections, make sure that you get a cosmetologist or permanent makeup specialist you trust, who uses sterilized equipment.

Another con to permanent makeup is the cost; something as simple as permanent eyeliner can set you back anywhere from three hundred dollars, to a thousand. It does help you cut back on the need to buy eyeliner every few weeks or months though, which does save you some money. If you think about it, this isn’t that much of a con, really.

What about semi permanent makeup, like semi permanent lip liner? Is there a difference?

That depends on who you’re talking to. Permanent makeup is often also called semi permanent makeup; so you can opt to refer to your new lip liner job as semi permanent lip liner or permanent lip liner. Sometimes though, there can be a small difference between semi permanent and permanent makeup. Some brands or cosmetic lines will tout their products or services as semi permanent makeup, but will actually refer to ordinary cosmetics formulated to be especially long wearing.

Whether you’re planning on giving permanent makeup a try and going under the cosmetologist’s needle with permanent eyeliner or semi permanent lip liner, or simply finding some reeeeeeaaally long-wearing semi permanent lip liner though, getting the colors and services that suit your needs can be easy, if you know what you’re looking for.

Smokey Eye Makeup Tips

Nothing says “mysterious and alluring” like a pair of smokey eyes giving someone the “come hither” look from across the room. This look can be achieved fairly easily. The “smokey eyes” look is characterized by makeup that emphasizes the eyes using soft lines and blending; usually, darker colors like black, brown, or gray are used, although you can opt to go for a more dramatic kind of smokey eyed look with fun colors like green or even red.

Smokey eye makeup tips proliferate throughout the internet, but all of them pretty much say the same thing: blend blend blend.

Good blending is the key!
Smokey Eye Makeup
The secret to great looking smokey eye makeup application may be in the blending, but another very important smokey eye makeup tip to take to heart is to choose colors that complement your skin tone.
If you have very pale skin, for example, using a strong, all-black color palette for your smokey eyes look can make you look less like a seductive vamp, and more like the walking dead. Likewise, if you have skin with yellow undertones, blue-tinted colors, like lavender, can make your skin appear jaundiced. Try to go for makeup colors that share your skin’s own undertones.

Many smokey eye makeup tips forget to mention that taking care of your skin and your eyes can go a really long way to opening up your eyes and making them look much more striking. Getting rid of puffiness around the eyes using cucumbers or tea bags, for example, may mean that you won’t have to add in that extra layer of concealer before putting on your base for your eye makeup; this makes your makeup less likely to get cakey.

If you’ve taken care of that business already, the first thing you have to start with for your smokey eyes look will always have to be the base. Make sure that any makeup you apply goes on evenly and doesn’t end up turning into a greasy line on your eyelid crease by using eyeshadow base.

After you’ve applied your base, you can opt to apply your eyeliner first by using an eyeliner pencil and then “smoking” it up by smudging it, or for a more subtle effect, apply your eyeshadow first, and then wet a slanted brush and use a darker eyeshadow tone as an eyeliner substitute.

Keep close to the lash-line, and even though coloring the bottom part of your eyes is an important component to this look, it’s a good idea to use a slightly lighter color and to only line from the middle out, since coloring the bottom of the eye all the way through has a tendency to actually make eyes smaller. Also, don’t forget to smudge! Smokey eyes are all about blurring the lines.

Whether you apply the eyeliner before or after the eyeshadow, the eyeshadow itself is a very important aspect of the smokey eyed look. The base color for your eyeshadow should either match your skintone, or be somewhat light. Creamy or pearly colors are great for this; apply them to the tops of your eyelids up to your brow bone before putting in the darker colors.

The dark-colored eyeshadow is what gives smokey eyes makeup its eponymous “smokey” effect. Once you’re done applying your light-colored base, use an eyeshadow brush to blend in the color, starting at you lash line and working your way up. Make sure that your eyeliner and your eyeshadow also blend, and once you hit the crease of your eyes, tone down the deep color.

One of my favorite smokey eye makeup tips is, after double checking so that your eyes match and the colors are blended; finish off your look with three or four coats of volumizing mascara. It’ll really make your look pop.

Natural & Non-Toxic Nail Polish

Did you know that many brands of nail polish use harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and phthalates in their formulations? That stuff is nasty, and they can kill you or at least make you feel very sick.

A lot of nail polish makers and removers have back off on the production of these kinds of nail polish and nail polish removers. Speaking of which, natural nail polish and natural nail polish remover have begun to proliferate. Finding a non-toxic nail polish isn’t that hard to do anymore.

Nail polish can come in a lot of different colors and can range from completely matte, to blindingly shimmery, but even though there’s a lot of variety to today’s most common nail care component, finding a totally chemical-free variety of nail polish can be a real test.
Natural Nail Polish

Parents with kids who want to play around with nail polish may be dismayed to hear this, especially since the chemicals found in most nail polish can potentially cause some very serious health problems.

The bright spot in this little dilemma can be found in water-based or “peel-off” natural nail polish varieties. Even though these brands of nail polish are almost always phthalate free and use all natural ingredients, it’s still not a good idea at all to maintain a nail-biting habit after getting a manicure.

Something meant to dry out quickly into a hard, tough covering that goes over your nails can’t be completely poison-free, and even if the product claims to be organic or all-natural, it’s never a good idea to tempt fate.

As far as finding a natural nail polish remover is concerned, unless the nail polish you’re using comes out with water, you’ll probably have a really hard time finding nail polish remover that doesn’t have poisonous acetone as its base.

Ethyl acetate is an alternative, and relatively less toxic, nail polish remover solvent to acetone-based ones. This particular compound is pretty much just ordinary alcohol, and small amounts of it can actually be found in wine as well as in perfumes. On the other hand though, this so-called natural nail polish remover has also been used in insect collecting “killing jars”, to choke insects to death without damaging their bodies.

Not very encouraging at all.

Still, if you’re looking for a toxicity-free way to get rid of conventional kinds of nail polish that don’t involve scraping them off or simply waiting around and clipping away at the colored edge of your nail as it grew, something with ethyl acetate is your best bet. This substance occurs naturally, and is about as natural as any natural nail polish remover can get.

Non-toxic nail polish is also still a bit of a while away, but natural nail polish, created with organic ingredients and completely free from poisons offer kinder alternatives to the phthalate and toluene-filled crud often found lining the shelves. They can be a little hard to find offline, but by keying in a few keywords, you will find these product can be ridiculously easy to find.

How To Grow Longer Nails

If you want to grow longer nails, try to remember that doing so can come at a price, especially if you want to grow your nails really long. The longer your nails are, the harder it can be to do ordinary things like play the guitar, type, or even button up a shirt.

A set of nice, long, healthy and well groomed nails can look really great though, and as long as you don’t go overboard, the touch of glamour it can lend an overall look can be well worth the cost.

One thing to remember is that in order to grow healthy nails, you have to take good care of them. Growing longer nails isn’t just a matter of not clipping them; you’ll also have to watch out that they don’t break. The enemy long nails, is nail breakage.

Unless you really are genetically inclined towards weak nails, there are ways to make sure that your fingernails are strong enough to withstand growing to the length you want them to be.

The first step in order to grow longer nails is to keep them clean. A lot of crud and other nasty stuff can get caught under a set of long fingernails, and with all that grossness, can come germs and the potential for infection. Keeping your hands clean is a great habit to have in general, and it can be really useful if you want to grow longer nails.

A really bad having to have if you want to grow longer nails is nail biting. Other than the fact that it’s a pretty gross habit to have in general, it can cause a lot of damage, not just to the nail itself, but to the nailbed as well, which is the skin underneath the nail. If you’re having trouble keeping your teeth away from your nails, try to make sure that your mouth and hands are occupied whenever you feel the urge. Keeping a pack of gum or a pen and paper handy for when the Nibbles hit.

Even if they can sometimes be a hassle to apply, a little bit of nail polish can protect your nails from the elements; as well as offer a little bit of reinforcement to prevent them from breaking.

Before you break out the nail polish though, it’s a really good idea to file your nails regularly and frequently. Nail growth is naturally uneven, and if left unchecked, you’d be much more likely to get hangnails.

Smoothing down the rough edges of your fingernails can not only keep the hangnails and the sharp edges at bay, but they also give your nails an even appearance that is absolutely necessary for a nice, polished look.

Along with keeping them clean, even, and protected, you’ll also have to make sure that you keep your nails from getting too dry by avoiding nail products with harmful chemicals, like toluene and DBP.

Corollary to that, making sure that your cuticles –the skin that protects the area where nails are produced- are trimmed and moisturized is very important. Overgrown cuticles can actually suffocate your nails and their growth, but it’s also important that the skin around your nails is healthy.

Keeping these tips in mind will not only help you get the long nails you’ve been longing for, but they practically guarantee healthy nails as well. All in all though, the way to grow longer nails is pretty much a matter of good nail maintenance, and patience.

Do Facial Exercises Work?

If you want to firm up your face and get rid of wrinkles without having to break the bank with expensive skin products or invasive procedures, you can try doing facial exercises. Of course, the question you might ask is, “Do facial exercises work?” Well, it’s very likely that they do.

The muscles on our arms and legs are directly attached, not to our skin, but to the bones of our body, which allows us to move our arms and legs. The muscles on our face, on the other hand, are attached directly to our skin, and as we get older, these muscles, as well as the skin covering them, lose elasticity and tone. These factors all contribute to the sagging and wrinkles that many believe to be inevitable.

Of course, we can’t really stop the march of days or turn back the clock, but we can hold off the effects of aging that may show up on our faces simply by taking care of ourselves and exercising the muscles of our faces so that they’ll stay firm and keep our skin from sagging. Like any anti-aging method that claims not to require any pills, shots, or surgery though, facial exercising has both fans and detractors.

While a lot of people will swear by the benefits of facial exercise for the reasons stated above, when people ask, “do facial exercises work?” those who criticize it will point out that the deepest and most prominent kinds of wrinkles are the ones that come from the facial expressions that a person makes.

Laugh-lines follow the way the skin folds when a person laughs; frown-lines are created when a person frowns. Given that argument, wouldn’t exercising the muscles that create these kinds of facial expressions simply aggravate the problem?

Also, the drooping and sagging that happens as we age isn’t just caused by our facial muscles losing their tone; as we grow older, the stuff that keeps our skin youthful-looking; collagen and elastin, as well as the fatty layer of our skin, get depleted. These factors are certainly not to be ignored in the battle against time and gravity that we all have to wage, the older we get.

On the other hand, fans of facial exercise say that it stimulates blood flow to the face and the skin on the face, as well as relieve tension. Have you ever had a “stress spot” on your face –between your eyebrows, for example- where all of the anger or stress you feel seems to just pool in?

Usually, these areas have the deepest wrinkles. With facial exercises, you can help take some of the tension away from those spots, as well as refresh your whole face in general.
Just like any other exercise program though, facial exercises require dedication, patience, and repetition.

One example of a facial exercise which firms up the muscles around the eyes will have you winking one eye partway, holding it for a second, and repeating it at least fifty times before switching over to the other eye.

Exercises like these can take a lot of time. In fact, it can take months before the effects start to show, but when they do, you can pretty sure that the answer to the question, “do facial exercises work?” is “Yes.”

How To Soften Skin Naturally With Natural Moisturizers

Nothing feels nicer than soft, smooth skin, but even if you’re genetically blessed with really great skin, unless you live in a tropical country, you’ll probably have to slather on even more moisturizer once the winter months come around. Store-bought moisturizers and skin treatments can cost a lot of money though, and if you want to make a few savings, all you need to do is find out how to soften skin naturally.

You’ll not only get the benefit of making a few savings, but you’ll also be giving your skin a treat that’s completely free of all the unpronounceable (and sometimes potentially harmful) chemicals that can usually be found in the moisturizers and skin treatments you can buy in plastic bottles. It’s pretty easy; you can glean a lot of great natural moisturizers from your kitchen alone.

If you want to figure out how to soften skin naturally, it’s a really great idea to work on it from the inside out. Something as simple as adding more fruits to your diet and staying hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of water can actually do wonders to brighten up your skin and keep it soft.

And the benefits don’t stop there, either. Staying sufficiently hydrated and consuming the nutrients and fibers you get from fruits and vegetables can also show in healthier, bouncier hair, more energy, a trimmer waistline, and better feelings all around.

Of course, if you don’t want to take my word for it, there are other ways that tweaking your daily routine can help give you naturally softer skin. Hot showers, for example, may feel absolutely wonderful during the colder months, but all of that hot water can actually cause skin to dry out really badly.

Add that to the fact that when the weather’s cold, the dryness in the air can tend to seep out the moisture in your skin and hair, and you’ve got a recipe for some really unpleasant winter dryness. A cold, bracing shower at seven in the morning (or whatever time you wake up) can seem like an advanced torture technique when it’s three degrees below zero outside, but your skin will thank you for it. Just make sure you don’t catch pneumonia after getting out of the shower.

Of course, aside from staying hydrated, eating the right kinds of food, and keeping the shower’s temperature on low, moisturizing outright is a must too.

Snooping around your kitchen cupboards is actually a really good way to find great, all natural moisturizers. For example, olive oil –yes, the stuff you put in pastas and salads- doesn’t just taste great, it’s great for your skin, too! In a pinch, you can rub a bit of it on “problem spots” on your skin, like your knees, elbows, and heels for quick results. For a real treat, right before showering, slather some of this all over your body, and rinse it off in the shower.

Yogurt is another really great natural moisturizer, and people have used yogurt to give their skin a boost for centuries, and these days, it’s really popular as a facial mask as well as a healthy treat. Aside from softening the skin, it tightens pores and gives your skin a gentle deep cleansing. If you know how to soften skin naturally, using unflavored yogurt should be a given. Warm it up a bit, apply it, leave it on for ten minutes, and rinse it all off with some warm water.

The Best Makeup Brushes For A Flawless Face

Makeup can often be a really important part of a person’s daily routine. If you’re the kind of person who can’t leave the house without even a quick cosmetic fix, you’ll know that makeup brushes are an essential buys when out shopping for basic beauty needs.

Most cosmetics already come with their own applicators, but the best makeup brushes will usually need to be bought separately. Of course, if you’re going to spend all of that money, you’re going to have to figure out how to clean makeup brushes. After all, what’s the use of having a really great set of makeup brushes if they’re all gross and grungy?

Of course, there are a lot of different kinds of makeup brushes, with different shapes and sizes, textures, handle lengths, and bristles. Each one has a different function and are great for applying different kinds of makeup. Unless you’re a professional makeup artist though, you don’t really need to buy all of them.

Best Makeup Brushes

If you just want to be able to apply your makeup well, it’s good to stick to a few “essential” brushes that are both versatile and practical, and are the best makeup brushes to suit most people’s makeup needs.

A large powder brush is one of those essentials. It’s a big, full brush with a domed or rounded shape, and it’s useful for dusting on loose powder or brushing off excess.

A concealer brush, on the other hand, has a squarer-shaped head, with corners that are tapered for blending. It should have a long handle and be a comfortable weight for your hand, since it’ll be used for precision applications.

A foundation brush is another makeup brush must-have. It’s a large brush with a flat, wide, and tapered head, useful for cream or liquid foundations.

For blush-on, use a brush that is slightly smaller than a powder brush, with a large head and slight tapering.

For your eye makeup, start with a medium-sized eye shadow brush with a square head slightly tapering corners, and firm but soft bristles. An angled or slanted eye liner brush is also a great addition to your makeup brush set. Try to make sure that the head is small and narrow, with bristles that are soft, but firm, because it’s meant to apply fine lines and blend or soften edges. A lip brush with a small, flat, narrow edge is great for blending and applying lipstick; just make sure that it has a cap and/or a retractable head, for hygienic purposes.

If you want to learn how to clean makeup brushes, but are worried about having to go through a lot of hassle to do it, stop worrying! All you need to do is run the bristles of each brush under some warm water, use a bit of shampoo to work up a bit of a lather, then rinse off as much of the makeup tint as you can, and air dry them. If you take care them, the best makeup brushes can serve you for years.

Home Remedies For Calluses

Calluses are thickened skin that develops when a part of a person’s skin encounters frequent friction or pressure. People who play string instruments like guitars will often have calluses on the fingertips of their left hands, and almost everybody has calluses on their feet.

Calloused skin is a lot harder and tougher than the skin around it, and it can often also be pretty rough to the touch and look less attractive. This is why a lot of people shop around for a good brand of callous remover or look for home remedies for calluses.

These patches of tough skin do have their uses though. After all, why would our bodies develop them if they aren’t useful for anything in the first place? Calluses help protect parts of our body from excessive pressure and friction. A person who has only started playing steel-stringed guitar, for example, will find that their fingertips will hurt a lot at first, but the pain eventually goes away as calluses begin to form.

Sometimes though, calluses are more eyesores than protection, and while preventing them is a lot easier than getting rid of them, there are home remedies for calluses that are available to just about anybody.

A rough stone, like a pumice stone, can be a pretty good callous remover. All you need to do is sand down the callus until you’ve gotten rid of it enough to fit your satisfaction. If you’re having trouble finding a good kind of rock to rub against the tough bits of skin on your feet, sandpaper can suffice too, but they’re a lot harsher and sharper than pumice, so try to curb your enthusiasm when you’re going at your calluses with sandpaper.

To soften up your calluses for sanding; try soaking the affected area in warm and soapy water with a touch of essential oil for around five or more minutes. Calluses on the soles of a person’s feet can be really hard and tough, and sometimes, the only way to start removing all those tough layers of skin is to soften them up before filing away at them with the foot file or pumice stone. Afterwards, when your feet are completely dry, apply a really rich moisturizer; something with lanolin, like petroleum jelly or heavy lotion.

This particular callous remover technique works best for especially big, tough calluses, like the ones found on your feet. If you have smaller calluses that aren’t as hard, like the ones a person might get on their hands after one day of hard manual labor, simply soaking the area in warm, soapy water for five minutes, drying it out, and then moisturizing with lotions or aloe creams with lanolin can get rid of them pretty effectively.

Of course, with a little patience, calluses can sometimes go away by themselves. If a person stops playing guitar for a while for example, the calluses on their fingertips eventually fade away.

Whether you choose to try out different home remedies to remove calluses or opt to buy a commercial product that serves as a callous remover though, just remember that depending on what kind of calluses they are; calluses aren’t always bad and that once you stop putting pressure on the area in question or prevent friction from affecting it, they can sometimes go away all by themselves.

Got Oily Hair & Scalp Blues?

The battle never ends. Some people have battles against moral issues, or against people – some have their own private war against oily hair and scalp. You keep trying day after day to keep that hair looking fresh and fabulous and you’ve finally got that slicked back look or whatever you want – but damn, in a few hours time your scalps turned on you like bad milk and there you have it – flat hair. You just lost another fight. Hey, it’s no Iraq, but it’s still a good fight.

Causes for oily hair and scalp vary. People are as unique as they come and hair’s unique too. Too much hair can actually lead to a higher instance of oily hair. How do you have too much hair? When it’s fine and not fine as in the Nanny, just fine, whispy or thin individual strands of hair.

Where the hair and the scalp meet is where oil is secreted and the more of these glands, sebaceous glands they are called, the more oil is naturally produced. Fine haired people, though they may not be fabulously haired, could have over a hundred thousand oil glands on their scalp. That’s a lot of oil factories running every day.

Redheads –well, natural redheads anyway- suffer far less from the curse of oily hair. Blondes tend to have finer hair and thus, suffer from oily hair a lot more than other people. Heat, humidity and hormones can lead to a whole lot more of oil. Taking on the oil in your scalp isn’t too difficult but you do need to be informed.

You don’t need special stuff to clean out all that gunk – maybe you just need to shampoo more. Once a day would be fantastic. Being in a heavily urbanized environment means that I have to clean my hair out a lot more than people who’re tramping around in the forest. When its summer time, you and your hair are a under a lot more stress than normal and twice a day might actually be reasonable. This way, you can keep up with the factories on your head going into overdrive.

Speaking of shampoos, clear shampoos are probably better for people with oil heads. Less fuss, less muss. Massaging the shampoo into your head actually works well – it’s also quite relaxing. If you’ve got a partner, ask them to massage your head while you take a nice bath together. I swear, it works wonders. You might not even care about your hair for a few minutes there.

Oily hair and scalp isn’t the end of the world. There are plenty of other ways to deal with it aside from simply shampooing more although that works well enough for most people. If you’re really desperate, you can try beer as a setting lotion. The smell fades as the beer dries. I personally love “beer in the hair” because it makes my hair feel luxurious and soft, as well as adding shine and controlling the greasies.

Oily hair and scalp can get in the way of a great hair day. Make sure it never gets in the way of your real day.

How To Bleach Hair

Blondes have more fun and maybe that’s why you want to learn how to bleach hair. Well, that’s really not a sure thing –the having more fun part anyway- but maybe you want to walk around blonde for a while. I’ve been wanting to bleach my hair blonde for the longest time anyway. It’ll make me look better in a bunch of outfits, so that’s a plus too.

Now, I knew that just dumping a bunch of chems on my head was probably a bad idea. Daring, sure, but it isn’t very smart so I decided to go to the research. There’s plenty of advice on how to bleach hair running around, but the internet isn’t exactly known for accountability. Just about anything can crop up on the net. Here are a few considerations for anyone who wants to be a blonde, at least for a little while.

Of course, before I put a single cent into my “blondening” efforts, I did some research. First, I had to figure out if it’ll look good with my skin tone and of course, with my clothes. Access to photo manipulation software can easily show you just how you would look platinum, ash or dark blonde. Before I even started on the road to bleach my hair blonde, I checked out how it would look.

Damn nice, that’s what, so for me, it was all lights are green and go. For you – check it out. If you have it bleached, it’s gonna stay that way for a while. Might even damage your hair while you’re at it and it’ll only be worse if it makes you look sick and washed out. Well, nothing wrong with that if that’s what you want, but most people aren’t looking for that look.

You do have to consider that doing this at home is probably a bad idea to begin with. Salons know how to bleach hair – this is what they paid to do. It’s so easy to ruin hair – too much wrecks it, too little and you can barely notice what changed or at worst, you end up another shade of the rainbow. You also have to consider that putting your hair through this ordeal means that you’re going to damage it at some point if you keep it up, no matter how careful you or the salon is.

Another reason to get into the salon chair? Hydrogen peroxide. That’s what you use to bleach your hair and it’s not exactly something you should handle without care. Getting in your eyes means that you should pull a “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and call a friend to get you to help. Swallowing the stuff is even worse.

Nothin’ wrong with wanting lighter hair. Nothing at all – but the actual process can be difficult, time consuming and if Darwin was right, dangerous to some people. No matter how many how to bleach hair guides you read or how much I want to bleach my hair blonde myself, it’s probably better to get into a salon chair.
